2008 Lake Youth Baseball Galleries

05/05/08 Lake Cardinals : Play Ball!!!! The beauty of youth baseball is not who wins or loses, but how the game is played. It’s not about the home runs, nor the strike outs. It’s all about the smiles on the children’s faces. It’s about recognizing the talents of all, even your opponents and finding the strength to congratulate them after a defeat. It is a strong individual who can hit the game winning home run, but it is a strong team who can make even the weakest player feel strong by building self confidence and respect for each other. Ask first or second graders who won a game, and they may answer, "I think it was a tie." It's likely the question isn't of any real interest at that age. Kids may be more eager to talk about the hits they got or the catches they almost made. Take pride in your child not only when he hits a home run, but when he leaves the field after a loss with a smile on his face. Let’s Play Ball!!!!!

06/02/08 Lake Cardinals : HE IS JUST A LITTLE BOY He stands at the plate, with his heart pounding fast. The bases are loaded, the die has been cast. Mom and Dad cannot help him, he stands all alone. A hit at this moment, would send the Team home. The ball meets the plate, he swings and he misses. There’s a groan from the crowd, with some boos and some hisses. A thoughtless voice cries, strike out the bum. Tears fill his eyes, the game’s no longer fun. So open your heart, and give him a break. For it’s moments like this, a man you can make. Please keep this in mind, when you hear someone forget. He is just a little boy, and not a man yet It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn't matter who gets the credit.
